It often helps to share your grief.
Midwest CareCenter sponsors grief support groups for adults, teens and younger children. Because our grief support program is supported by contributions, donations are accepted, but there are no fees for participation in any grief support group.
Hope & Healing. Open to any adult who is grieving the death of a parent, sibling or friend. Spending time with others who have experienced a similar loss helps to make grieving less solitary. The group offers a place where you can safely express your thoughts and feelings as well as honor the memories of a loved one.
First Light: Life Beyond Loss. For adults who are grieving the loss of a spouse or partner. Typical concerns addressed in this group may be: “How do I deal with the myriad of tasks that face me?”, “Will I always feel like the third wheel?” or “Will I ever stop crying?” Individuals also may share advice about caring for children, dating, managing finances and other concerns of surviving spouses.
Sudden Loss. Death without warning can create distinct challenges for surviving family members and friends. Our Sudden Loss group addresses the special concerns of adults who have lost loved ones unexpectedly. Individuals can learn about common and uncommon grief reactions and healthy ways to make sure you care for yourself.
Young Widows. For those 40-years old and under who have experienced the death of a spouse or partner. Our Young Widows group provides a safe, non-judmental space to express grief, discover opportunities for support and integrate this loss into your life.
Second-Year Loss. We know that grief cannot be measured in days, months or even years. The Second-Year Loss group brings together individuals who have been grieving the death of a loved one for more than a year. As we follow the group curriculum, we also discuss ways to respond to comments such as “It’s time to move on” or “Time heals all wounds.”
Drop-in Groups. Held on the first and third Friday of each month, our drop-in groups are open to adults whose loss occurred between three and 24 months prior to participation. Registration for these groups is not required.
Please note:
- REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL GROUPS except for the drop-in group.
- Deadline for registration is one week (five business days) before the group start date. If the registration deadline has passed, please call to inquire about remaining spaces.
- Groups last for eight weeks.
- Groups will be cancelled five days prior to the group start date if registration numbers are low.
